Description

Capturing the 1972 model year (6/71 - 3/73) VH Valiant Charger, part of Australian motoring folklore, in my mission to preserve the soul of classic motoring through simulation, sound, and storytelling, whilst pushing the boundaries of what Assetto Corsa can achieve.

For more about my ethos, and the standards I set for myself in mod creation - I've made a little page over here https://ko-fi.com/mjcsolutions which should also serve as a noticeboard for new works-in-progress too, beyond the occasional "What are you working on?" thread post here.

I've put a lot of focus into exacting the evidence-backed physics and functionality for driving, as well as the details and features for admiring. So if you're the AI observer, the studious collector, the hardcore racer or the after-work cruiser - whatever you look to enjoy Assetto Corsa for, so long as it's cars of this era - there might be something in this mod for you to enjoy.

This collection for the VH range includes Chargers like the infamous triple-weber HEMI-6 powered E49 that held global performance records for decades, scarcely known luxury tourers like the 340-V8 770SE, right down to the budget entry level Charger with rubber floor covering and unassisted drum brakes. They all have bespoke engine audio via Ange The Great's Engine Simulator (all 9 engines), dynamic thermal computations via Lua - and in the appropriate versions there's fully functional automatic TorqueFlite hydraulic transmissions, and variable-ratio power steering.

For the discerning enthusiast, you might enjoy:
Comprehensive PDF compendium extracted from a Chrysler Owners Manual, including some of the reference data used to validate elements of this mod's physics.
Detailed engine bays, boots and opening doors, animated fans, blinker stalks, light switches and odometers, fully working instrumentation and warning lights, even a working clickable radio.
Advanced Lua-driven functionality including dynamic vacuum for power assisted brakes, ignition scatter and timing drift of points-based ignition, auto-choke behaviour on startup, heat degradation, vapor lock, carby float bowl fuel-slosh from G-forces, and aforementioned fully working automatic transmissions.
"Accurate physics" - easy to claim, tricky to substantiate - three completely bespoke tyre models as fitted OEM to different variants, all tested, validated, heat-soaking to - and from - the brakes, which also have their own accurate, validated thermal calculations; no artificial fuel cut/blip to help out keyboard players at the expense of realism to sim drivers; torque curves tested and validated, speedos that are slightly off, odometers showing miles, lights that flicker and fail, torsion bar rates, leaf springs with lateral flex and even aero all grounded in reality.
Every model, every colour, every available trim combination and a representative cross-section of options - every engine, transmission, steering box , suspension spec, brake spec. - and accurate weights including the extra weight for power steering and air conditioning options, where fitted, and much, much more.
Please enjoy this museum-grade archive of 1972 Charger coupes - whilst Valiant hardtops, sedans, other years and other brands, are all somewhere on the horizon.
