History
Autodelta's Tipo 33 sports car program kicked off in 1967, perhaps a little prematurely, resulting in a rather uninspiring debut for Alfa Romeo's 2L response to the German Porsche 906's and 910's. For 1968, Carlo Chiti redesigned the T33 in hopes of rectifying the nasty handling issues while retaining the unique "H-pattern" lightweight chassis. Alongside a slight tune-up of the 1,998cc V8, now pushing out 270hp, the T33/2 would hit the circuit in February 1968 for the Daytona 24 Hours, where it would take a class win and finish 5th, 6th and 7th place overall.

For Le Mans, Chiti developed a longtail variant to suit the long straights at the French circuit. The longtail, though ineffective by current day standards, did allow the T33/2 to reach speeds in excess of 290km/h. Since this modification only changed the rear body, this longtail was relatively inexpensive to develop and apply on existing 'Daytona' short tails. Autodelta S.P.A. entered 4 Coda Lunga T33/2's in the postponed 1968 Le Mans 24, with a further 2 cars entered by Belgian team VDS.

Autodelta got lucky at Le Mans this year, with the longtails virtually unopposed throughout the 24 hours, with the only rivals being the underprepared Healey SR and a handful of privateer Porsche's. One Autodelta entered car did not make it to the finish, neither did both VDS entries - but the cars that did make it to the end finished 4th, 5th and 6th; marking Alfa Romeo's first 2L class victory at Le Mans and almost their first podium finish.

This race marked the only official race contested by Autodelta with the T33/2 Coda Lunga, with further sparse appearances being done by privateer teams. VDS entered a single T33/2 Coda Lunga in the 1969 Le Mans race without success. The 1969 Daytona 24 Hours also saw a Peruvian privateer team enter a Coda Lunga, which ended up in a heavy accident, miraculously not fatally injuring its driver. Today, less than 5 Coda Lunga's survive with most being converted back to 'Daytona' models.
Mod information

Following on from the massive success of the 'Daytona', we began developing this beautiful longtail over the course of another 6 months. SergioC modified the model to include the unique longtail configuration, which was then brought into AC after only a few weeks! We decided to go for the Autodelta specification as it ran at Le Mans in 1968; no front winglets and no side intake on the doors. A lot of testing and time went into modifying the physics of the car to suit the longtail's handling characteristics, with Bazza diving into many sources and using his extensive knowledge on assetto's physics to bring this beast to life. It took me a while to paint all 10 included liveries as they all had slightly differing decal placements! The final package includes custom emissive lights & dash calibrations by ValentinK, which really turns the interior into a gorgeously sculpted piece of art. Finally, Gadu's excellent shader/texture work was applied to the car to make the visual quality equally as excellent as his work on the 'Daytona' model.

As this is a longtail, the handling of this car is far more geared towards oversteer, Autodelta's removal of the front winglets also doesn't benefit the front end sticking to the road. Treat the car nicely and it'll comply, drive it like you stole it and it will throw you off the circuit! Not to say that it can't be recovered of course, Bazza knows what he's doing when coding in the physics
